Speaking at a press conference, Cannavaro said reports about his contract had been distorted.
The Italian coach explained that, under his agreement with the Uzbekistan Football Association, he covers the salaries of the specialists he brought to the coaching staff from his own earnings.
As an example, Cannavaro said forwards coach Rolando Bianchi is working with the national team without receiving any payment. He also noted that physiotherapist Simone Sigillo left his position at Italian club Palermo to join the Uzbekistan coaching staff, accepting only 20% of his previous salary.
Cannavaro said a considerable amount of inaccurate information about him had circulated in recent weeks. He suggested that some of the criticism may stem from the fact that he is a foreign coach and indicated that someone within the national team setup had been leaking internal information, contributing to the spread of false reports.
"My salary is not €4 million," Cannavaro said, rejecting the claims outright.
