This figure accounts for 17% of the nation’s total electricity output for the month – an all-time high for green energy. By comparison, in May 2022, green generation stood at 434 million kWh, and in May 2023, it reached 576.9 million kWh.
Breakdown by source:
- 11 solar power plants generated a combined 712 million kWh;
- 3 wind farms contributed 392 million kWh.
As a result of this surge in renewable output, more than 335 million cubic meters of natural gas were saved. Additionally, the use of solar and wind energy prevented the emission of:
- 638,000 tons of CO₂,
- 537 tons of nitrogen oxides,
- 100 tons of carbon monoxide, and
- 6.7 tons of sulfur dioxide (SO₂) into the atmosphere.
When hydropower plants are included, the total volume of fuel-free electricity reached 1.81 billion kWh in May – 28% of total generation. This helped save over 551 million cubic meters of gas and prevented more than 1 million tons of CO₂ emissions.
